Glyph Bosses guard the Purification Glyphs. Killing a Glyph Boss will result in the boss dropping one purification glyph for the appropriate difficulty and 5 sizable piles of gold (or it could just be one very large gold drop as multiple piles). As a result, glyph bosses are often run for gold finding purposes in addition to the actual glyphs.
